Antonio Rudiger: Two Premier League clubs in touch with Chelsea defender as the contract runs down
German international Antonio Rudiger will be out of contract this summer as Chelsea is currently under sanctions and are not allowed to sign any new deals.
Several top European clubs, including two of Chelsea’s Premier League rivals, have their eyes set on Rudiger.
Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, Newcastle United and Juventus have communicated their interest to Antonio Rudiger’s managers.
Antonio Rudiger is one of the three Chelsea defenders set to be free agents along with Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta. While Newcastle United and Manchester United are keeping an eye out for new acquisitions, they are not the only ones as a number of top football clubs across Europe are monitoring the situation.
Antonio Rudiger was signed by Roma for a Euro 9 million fee in 2016. The following year he was signed by Chelsea for an estimated Euro 27 million. He has had a career revival under Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea and has been an integral part of the club’s five-player defense strategy.
Antonio Rudiger has enjoyed an impressive career playing for Chelsea. He won the 2017-18 Fa Cup in his first season, followed by UEFA Europa Cup in his second season and UEFA Champions League in 2021. He was a part of the German squad that won the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup.
Antonio Rudiger has voiced his desire to stay at Chelsea. However, Chelsea has failed to renew his contract due to government sanctions on club owner Roman Abramovich following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
While bidding is currently going on towards the sale of the club, it remains unclear who the new owner will be and how long it will take them to complete the takeover.
The situation leaves a looming cloud of doubt over the future of players with expiring deals. Chances of his contract with Chelsea being renewed look less likely for Rudiger with each passing day.
