Antonio Conte looking to capitalise on top four failings
Tottenham boss Antonio Conte has said things are "starting to work" as his side looks to capitalise on any slip-ups from the Premier League’s current top four.
Spurs beat West Ham 3-1 at White Hart Lane on Sunday, which saw them move into fifth place in the table, just three points behind fourth-placed Arsenal, albeit having played a game more.
An own goal from Kurt Zouma and a brace from Son Heung-Min, with Heung-Min and Harry Kane involved in all three goals, saw Spurs leapfrog their London rivals and boost their chances of qualifying for next season's Champions League.
Conte joined Tottenham back in November and has presided over a steady improvement in the form of the side.
Speaking after the game, he said, "We have this ambition, the ambition is to target fourth place.
"Before my arrival this seemed difficult to reach, but now after five months, this is starting to work.
"We want to stay in this race until the end. It's very difficult, but we are improving in a way that I like. This team is growing in the mentality, they are learning to control the game and this is very important.
"There are four teams that in my opinion in England are better than the others - I am talking about Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool.
"But if one of these four teams fail in the season and miss to stay in one of the four places, I think that now at this moment, Arsenal, Tottenham and West Ham need to be ready to try to stay until the end."
It’s interesting he mentioned Manchester United as they are currently in sixth place, with one point fewer than Spurs.
The Hammers are one place and two points further back, but have also played a game more.
Arsenal, who are fourth, are Tottenham’s immediate target.
Spurs will be hoping to make it three wins in a row when they host Newcastle United after the international break on April 3.
If they win, they will move level on points with the Gunners, who do not play until April 4, when they travel to Crystal Palace.
