Pogba will be leaving the Old Trafford-based club on a free transfer for the second time since joining Juventus back in 2012.

A statement from the club was released, which read, "The club can announce that Paul Pogba will leave Manchester United at the end of June, upon the expiry of his contract."

"Everyone at the club would like to congratulate Paul on his successful career and thank him for his contributions to Manchester United. We wish him all the best for the next steps on a remarkable journey."

Reacting to the news, Pogba stated on his social media account, "I feel privileged to have played for this club.

"Many beautiful moments and memories but most importantly an unconditional support from the fans. Thank you Manchester United."

He won three trophies on his debut for the club after returning from Juventus in 2016 for a then-world-record fee of £89.3 million.

It has been difficult for him to find consistency during his return to Manchester United, and during the final season, he has faced criticism.

Both times he played against Norwich City and Liverpool, his supporters booed the midfielder.

Pogba reportedly considers returning to Juventus after rejecting interest from Premier League champions Manchester City.

Paul Pogba's journey at Manchester United

Despite only joining Manchester United's Academy aged 16 from Le Havre, the Frenchman has enjoyed a long association with the club.

Pogba quickly ascended the ranks as a player, first impressing with the Under-18s and swiftly advancing to the Reserves.

In 2011, he played both legs of the club's Youth Cup final against Sheffield United, which resulted in the club's unprecedented 10th win.

He made his first-team debut under Sir Alex Ferguson with a 3-0 victory against Leeds United in the League Cup the following season.

However, after the fierce competition for places at Old Trafford, Pogba joined Italian giants Juventus in the summer of 2012.

Nonetheless, he later returned to Old Trafford in 2016 with the hope of continuing the career he had begun with Manchester United in 2011/12.

Jose Mourinho immediately installed him at the heart of his new-look midfield, and his first year back in M16 was full of success.

Paul Pogba wanted to extend the contract

According to a new report, Manchester United's out of contract star Paul Pogba sent his former manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, numerous texts, urging for the team to renew his deal until the summer of 2020

This week, it was announced that the Frenchman would be leaving United for the second time as his contract expires officially at the close of this month.

The debate over the 29-year-old's future has been rumbling on and on over the past few months, with a variety of clubs interested in purchasing United's club record £89 million for nothing.

An article in The Athletic has claimed that Pogba was keen to sign an extension with United back in 2020 and even advised the club and Solskjaer, who was the manager, to work on a new contract.

But even though Solskjaer said that he had 'pressed' the board for a new deal for Pogba and signed an extension for the midfielder, Manchester United only moved to start the one-year extension included in Pogba's £290,000 a-week contract. A move that left Pogba deflated'.
