Football News: Sporting Lisbon midfielder Matheus Nunes gets an official €35 million offer from West Ham United
West Ham United manager David Moyes revealed the club's interest in Sporting Lisbon player Matheus Nunes
Moyes did not clarify whether the deal was rejected, but he did admit that the player did not want to relocate to east London.
West Ham United's official offer of €35 million (£30 million) for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Matheus Nunes.
According to the Portuguese newspaper Record, the Hammers' bid consists of £25 million up front and a further £5 million in add-ons.
He has previously been linked with a move to Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers, but he is still with Sporting.
The Brazilian star turned down Wolves' approach, while Liverpool decided not to pursue the midfielder despite their present injury situation.
Thiago, Curtis Jones, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are now out with injuries that range from a month to two or three months, leaving Liverpool a touch short in the area.
On the other hand, Klopp has maintained Liverpool's stance, stating that Liverpool would not move for anyone unless the right player becomes available at the right price.
So it appears that Liverpool will not pursue him, but if that special deal becomes available, Nunes would be of the calibre Klopp seeks.
In response to a question about Nunes on Friday, Moyes replied: "We made a bid for him but he chose not to come."
Sporting has a different price tag for Matheus Nunes
The Portuguese club, however, asks a minimum fee of £42 million for the promising 23-year-old. While the player is eager for a Premier League move, he does not see his future at the London Stadium.
Nunes' contract includes a £51 million release clause, although no team is likely to fulfil that valuation for the player.
Because of his substantial club accomplishments and the role he plays under manager Ruben Amorim, the young 23-year-stock old's has grown.
In addition to Liverpool, Chelsea has expressed interest but has yet to submit an offer as Thomas Tuchel seeks additional midfield inventiveness.
Nunes shone so brightly in last season's Champions League that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola singled him out for unusual praise.
The manager of Manchester City said: 'I would say that Matheus Nunes is one of the best players in the world today.'
Nunes has also drawn attention for his exceptional passing range, including long-range balls across the pitch and close and linked deliveries.
Interestingly, Nunes is a client of Jorge Mendes' Gestifute firm, and it was Mendes who recently met with Boehly to discuss a transfer for Cristiano Ronaldo.
Nunes appeared in 50 games in all 2021-22, scoring four goals and registering five assists.
West Ham United have already signed Flynn Downes from Swansea, but adding another pacy, powerful, and most crucially established central midfielder should be high on his priorities list.
West Ham is looking for a midfielder after bidding for Amadou Onana, who has since moved to Everton.
Moyes' squad travels to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Sunday.
