After Ghana took a 2-0 lead, Cho Gue-sung equalised for South Korea within three minutes of the second half before Mohammed Kudus scored to give Ghana their first World Cup win in a dozen years.

South Korea remains in Group H with one point, while Ghana's win moves them into second place. Portugal and Uruguay will meet in their final match in Lusail on Monday.

Both teams made three changes from the opening game, and South Korea got the better start to the match.

South Korea, whose captain Son Heung-min again wore a face shield, registered seven corners in 18 minutes, while Ghana could not take control of the game.

But despite their dominance, Paulo Bento's side failed to score a goal of note, and Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu conceded midway through the first half.

Crystal Palace's Jordan Ayew was the scorer when South Korea failed to clear his free kick properly, and Salisu put the ball into the net from a turn.

Ghana's jubilation was briefly interrupted when replays showed that Jordan Ayew's free-kick had hit the hand of his brother Andre Ayew.

A review by VAR followed before Premier League referee Anthony Taylor was instructed to allow the goal to stand.

Ghana had suddenly taken the lead, and 10 minutes later, Kudus doubled the advantage when he circled a Jordan Ayew free kick into the corner.

South Korea looked sure winners at the break, but Cho saved the team when he headed home a cross from substitute Lee Kang-in just before the break.

And just three minutes later, Cho stunned Ghana when he fired a powerful header past goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi for his second goal of the night.

South Korea was ahead but was only level for seven minutes after Kudus scored his brace.

Inaki Williams muffed a back pass from Gideon Mensah, but the ball came straight to Kudus, who decided the game with his third goal in 10 wild and crazy minutes.

South Korea pressed for the equaliser. Ati-Zigi blocked a free kick from Kang-in before Salisu could scramble Kim Jin-su's shot off the line.

But Ghana survived 10 minutes of stoppage time to deny South Korea a second comeback and secure their first World Cup victory since beating the USA in the 2010 round of 16 in South Africa.

A furious Bento was red-carded by referee Taylor after the final whistle and will miss his team's last group game against his native Portugal.
