FIFA World Cup: Lionel Messi hints final will be his last World Cup match for Argentina
Yesterday's semi-final match between Argentina and Croatia proved that Messi still has the same fire that he always has had.
Argentina gave no opportunity to Croatia throughout the game to recover from the damage the Argentinian team was causing.
The game ended at an incredible 3-0, allowing Messi's team to qualify for the finals. Reports say that this may be Messi's last time playing in the world cup, and reaching the finals may be great for him.
In a recent interview after the semi-finals, Messi said that this may be his last World Cup because he may not still be playing by the 2026 tournament in Mexico, Canada and the USA.
"I feel very happy to be able to achieve this, to finish my World Cup journey by playing my last game in a final," Messi said to the Argentine-based media house Diario Deportivo Ole.
"It's many years for the next one and I don't think I'll be able to do it. And to finish like this, it's the best," he added.
This one is Messi's fifth World Cup, and he has broken all records with his fifth goal this season. Messi has broken Gabriel Batistuta's history as the top scorer at World Cups, netting 11 times.
"It's all well and good (the records), but the important thing is to be able to achieve the group objective, which is the most beautiful thing of all," said Messi. "We're just one step away, after fighting hard, and we're going to give everything to try to make it happen this time," he added.
Sunday's final is important for Messi to get what he must've always dreamt of. Argentina have made it to the finals and today's game between Morocco and France will decide which team joins them in the fight for the title.
