FIFA World Cup: Cameroon and Serbia draw 3-3 to remain in the race for the World Cup

Cameroon striker Vincent Aboubakar scored a goal and set up another as the Indomitable Lions salvaged a point in a 3-3 draw with Serbia on Monday, snapping a run of eight straight World Cup defeats for the African side Finished

After a rollercoaster ride in Group G, both teams have picked up just one point from their two matches and are still in the running for a place in the round of 16, although Cameroon will face Brazil in their final game on Friday while Serbia will face Switzerland.

Jean-Charles Castelletto put Cameroon ahead just before halftime. Still, a quick one-two from Strahinja Pavlovic and the impressive Sergej Milinkovic-Savic at the end of the first period decided the game in Serbia's favour.

When Aleksandar Mitrovic scored another goal at the start of the second period, it looked as if his team would wrap up the victory.

But Aboubakar, the top scorer at this year's Africa Cup of Nations finals, turned the game around when he came off the bench.

He cut the deficit with a fine solo strike and an audacious lob over the goalkeeper before breaking forward and feeding Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, who scored the equaliser three minutes later.

Serbia, however, got off to a better start. After Mitrovic had a header deflected over the bar, he hit the post when his quick footwork created a shooting chance from an acute angle.

He had another huge chance when Cameroon failed to clear their lines, and the ball fell to him from eight yards out, but he shot wide of the goal.

Cameroon took the lead after Serbia needlessly caused a corner kick. Castelletto was able to intercept Nicolas N'Koulou's shot at the far post.

Serbia equalised in first-half stoppage time with a goal that was also simple in its execution. Dusan Tadic struck a free kick into the penalty area, and Pavlovic rose highest to direct the ball into the corner.

Two minutes later, the team took the lead when the Cameroonian defense gave Milinkovic-Savic time to put the ball in the net from the edge of the penalty area.

The third goal for Serbia was beautifully initiated and completed by Mitrovic. He charged toward the Cameroonian penalty area. After a series of passes inside the penalty area, Andrija Zivkovic played the ball into the middle, where the burly number nine could slide it in simply.

That was the cue for Aboubakar, who came off the bench. First, he fired the ball into the net for 3:2, outwitted the offside trap, ran, and hit a low cross to Choupo-Moting, who scored the equaliser and kept Cameroon in the competition.
