Emerging Hockey players in India
Hockey India recently announced the squad for the 2022 Asia Cup. The team has 20 players in total, out of which ten players are making their debut in the national hockey team
These ten new players who will now be playing for India in international tournaments had shown tremendous performance in the FIH Junior World Cup. They have been given this exciting opportunity to represent India on global platforms due to their incredible performances. Now that the Asian Games are postponed, and the squad for the commonwealth games is yet to be announced, their performance in the upcoming games may help them secure a place in these prestigious tournaments.
Some players are expected to perform exceptionally well in the upcoming international tournaments. While some have already secured a place in the national team, some may soon find a place if they continue performing well in the junior squads. Prashant Kumar Chauhan, named one of the best young players of India by Sreejesh, has big dreams about Indian Hockey. He wishes to be the first choice goalkeeper of the Indian senior hockey team. His plans are not at all hollow. He was part of the teams that won silver medals in the Youth Olympics of 2018 and the Sultan of Johor Cup, held in 2019. This prodigy dreams of securing medals for the country in prestigious tournaments like Olympics, Asian Games, etc.
The next in line is the incredible junior hockey player, Sudeep Chirmako, who scored four goals at the FIH Junior World Cup. Though India did not win in any of the matches where he took these incredible goals, his talent and prowess were visible from his terrific performance on the field. He was the top scorer in the Youth Summer Olympics with 11 goals and was also a part of the team to win the silver medal.
The 19-year old defender, Shardanand Tiwary, defender of the Indian team in the FIH Junior World Cup of 2021, scored four incredible goals in the tournament. His outstanding performance in the cup and his terrific conversion of a penalty corner at the quarter-finals make him one of the contenders to be soon be playing in the national senior team. Last but not least, Sanjay Kumar, the vice-captain of the Indian's FIH Junior World Cup team, scored eight goals at the cup and left all hockey fans in awe of his performance. He is often referred to as the young Rupinder Pal Singh, the current captain of the senior squad. His penalty corners and drag-flick speciality will make him an essential addition to the senior team.
