Hockey Women's Nations Cup 2022: Canada withdraws, Chile replaces Canada in Pool B
The Hockey Women's Nations Cup 2022 is scheduled to begin on December 10 and run till December 17. While pool A comprises Spain, Korea, Ireland, and Italy, India was put in Pool B along with Canada, Japan and South Africa
Canada recently withdrew from the championship allowing another team to take its place and join the prestigious tournament. Chile is next in line, holding the top rank after the teams already participating in the Cup.
Chile has shown remarkable performance this season and is expected to showcase an exciting talent show in the upcoming Nations Cup.
This is a golden opportunity for the Chilean team because victory in this tournament would mean they reach the FIH Hockey Pro League, which will be an excellent achievement for the team.
Their first remarkable performance of 2022 was seen when they finished runner in the 2022 Women's Pan American Cup and thereby made a place for themselves in the FIH Hockey Women's World Cup Spain & Netherlands 2022.
The World Cup was also excellent, with the Chilean team showing incredible joy and energy on and off the field. Chile deserves this beautiful opportunity because of their recent victory against Argentina and the gold medal in XII South American Games Asuncion 2022.
When asked about this golden opportunity, Chile's captain Camila Caram said, "We are thrilled as a team to participate in this tournament. We are very sorry that Canada is absent, but it gives us a tremendous opportunity to show our level of play. We hope to be able to live up to the game, and these tremendous rivals that we will face that will participate in the tournament."
India was supposed to open their campaign against Canada. With Canada out of the picture now, it is expected that currently, India's first game at Valencia will be against Chile. Given how incredibly well the Chilean team has been doing so far, it might be a great challenge for the Indian team to defeat them.
"We can't take any team lightly. Each team is very dangerous in their way and we will have to play our best hockey so that the team can reach the final rounds. Every match is a new day, and the past results will not have any consequence on the present," said Neha Goyal, India's midfielder, in an interview with Scroll. In.
