    The objective of this day is to ignite the spirit of teamwork, sportsmanship, perseverance and fitness in the minds of the young players aiming to participate in the field of sports and also to encourage the public at large to be fit and take part in sports to have a healthy mind and a healthy body.

    Major Dhyan Chand, on whose birth anniversary this day is celebrated in India, is one of the Indian hockey players. They won gold at the Olympics for India on several occasions. He made a total of 570 goals in his entire career. 

    This day was announced for the first time in 2012, and this is the 10th year of its celebration. 

    This day is celebrated on the birth anniversary of hockey legend Dhyan Chand because he was one of the most incredible players in India. As a result of Dhyan Chand's contribution to the Indian hockey team, India made its first gold medals hat trick at the Olympics in 1928, 1932 and 1936. 

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on this critical occasion, took to Twitter to wish the population a very happy National Sports Day and paid tribute to 'Hockey Wizard' Major Dhyan Chand. 

    "Greetings on National Sports Day and tributes to Major Dhyan Chand Ji on his birth anniversary. The recent years have been great for sports. May this trend continue. May sports keep gaining popularity across India," said Narendra Modi. 

    On this humble occasion, Junior Sports Minister Nisith Pramanik also took to Twitter to pay tribute to Major Dhyan Chand on his birth anniversary and to pledge to make our country a sporting nation.

    "My humble tributes to the wizard of hockey, Major Dhyan Chand Chand Ji on his birth anniversary. On the occasion of #NationalSportsDay2022 , I thank everyone who has dedicated their life towards the upliftment of sports in India. Let's work together to make India a sporting nation," tweeted Nisith Pramanik. 

    Many legends of the sports field like Sachin Tendulkar, Lakshya Sen, Yuvraj Singh, Mithali Raj, etc. took to social media to wish everyone on this occasion and to celebrate the accomplishments of some incredible players of India who have made the country proud.
