FIH World Rankings: India's men's hockey team drops to the fourth spot; women rise to sixth
The Indian men's hockey team dropped to the fourth spot from the third rank, while the women's squad jumped up a place to rise to number six in the latest FIH World Rankings, issued on May 30
The Indian women's Hockey Team is now at their best rank in history at sixth in the World Rankings above Spain with 2029.396 points. Spain lost the sixth spot due to their recent losses against England and Belgium.
After the announcement, the chief coach of the Indian women's hockey team, Janneke Schopman, said, "As a team, we aim to improve and grow and become a consistent contender in Women's Hockey. The rise in the FIH World Rankings is an excellent indicator that we are on the right path.
Captain of the Indian women's team, Savita, expressed her delight with the new rankings. She said, "This is the outcome of all our team's hard work over the past few months. We have worked together against strong competition and achieved good results, and we are proud that we are growing and learning together as a unit.
The Netherlands replaced India at the third position on the charts, owing to their remarkable FIH Pro Hockey League results. The Indian squad lost to Japan in their second match of the Hero Men's Asia Cup, due to which Japan moved to the 15th spot from the previous 17th.
The men's squad of Australia and the women's squad of the Netherlands continue to hold the top spot in their respective categories. Germany continues to hold the fifth spot, while England jumped ahead of Argentina due to their recent wins over France and South Africa.
The women's squad of Argentina continue to hold the second spot on the charts behind the Netherlands after two drawn matches on 28th and 29th June.
Both the Indian men's and women's hockey teams will face Belgium in a two-legged FIH Pro Hockey League match on the 11th and 12th of June.
