FIH Hockey Pro League: Spain defeats France 1-0 in the second leg
The Spanish men’s hockey squad defeated France 1-0 in the second leg of the match at Estadio Betero in Valencia on May 18
Spain won 4-2 against France in a goal-packed game in the previous match. However, the second leg had just one goal standing between the victory and a draw for Spain. The home side had plenty of chances in the second league, but Arthur Thieffry, the goalkeeper of the French team, gave an impressive performance to keep the match goalless until the final minutes of the game. Spain finally got a breakthrough with just one minute left into the second half when Menini Joaquin was finally able to score, sealing the victory for Spain.
Spain stands on the charts at the sixth spot with 11 points from 10 matches, while France is at the fifth spot with 13 points from 11 games.
In the women’s game, Argentina defeated China 3-1 to record their tenth consecutive victory of the season. China started aggressively and got a 0-1 lead three minutes into the second quarter with a goal scored by Gu Bingfeng from a penalty corner
