The Jamaican sprinter is a lifelong gamer. Bolt will not just join the group as a co-owner but will be involved in elevating WYLDE’s growing brand that is involved in quite a few different sports. The 35-year-old currently holds the world record for 100 meters, 200 meters and 4x100 meters relay. He retired from athletics in 2017.

Usain Bolt is a pretty big name in sprinting and might just be stepping into the world of esports. But, he is not the first traditional sports player to get involved in competitive gaming. In the past, Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh and English footballer David Beckham have been involved in or own esports teams.

Usain Bolt, the new co-owner of WYLDE, said, “WYLDE is on a journey to becoming one of the biggest brands in the fastest growing sport in the world. In esports, like in track and field, it’s critical to have that competitive, winning mentality.

WYLDE is based in Dublin, Ireland. It was established two years ago by Steve Daly and David Cronin. Previously, David Cronin was a shareholder of Irish tech company QUMAS and the President and Chief Executive of the American Ireland Funds. Steve Daly worked at JP Morgan as an investment banker.

WYLDE established an academy to nurture gaming talent by providing them with professional coaching. They organize community tournaments and are hosting a number of boot camps across Europe. A Jamaican boot camp in partnership with Usain Bolt is being planned for late 2022.

WYLDE has established and is currently training teams competing in Rainbow Siege, Valorant, Rocket League and FIFA.

Co-founder of WYLDE, David Cronin commented, “Usain coming on board takes WYLDE to the next level. With his vast competitive experience and Olympic-winning mentality, his guidance will be invaluable as we continue to build professional structures to support the development of our players.”

He further added, “according to the release, the organisation is currently engaged in sponsorship discussions with several global brands focused on entering the esports industry.”

Usain Bolt's decision to support an up and coming esports organization will definitely benefit WYLDE as a brand owing to his popularity.
