Sony announces new PlayStation 5 Slim model
Sony has just announced a new-look PlayStation 5, revealing the slimmer PS5 model, set to launch next month.
In recent months, there have been rumours circulating on the internet about a new PlayStation 5. We've covered most of the leaks in the past, but now Sony has officially announced the new console.
Despite being 30% smaller and considerably lighter than the launch console, Sony's new PS5 'Slim' doesn't appear markedly different from the original model.
Both consoles boast sleeker body contours compared to their predecessors and are priced at $499.99 for the disc version and $449.99 for the digital version. Sony has stated that they will be available for purchase from November 2023.
However, there have been some changes to what's included with the console. Vertical stands will no longer be included; instead, a horizontal stand will be provided in the box.
For those desiring a vertical stand, you'll need to pay $29.99. If you purchase the Digital Version, you'll also have the option to buy a separate disc drive for $79.99.
Once the inventory of the launch model PS5s is depleted, the new, smaller PlayStation 5 will be the sole model available brand new. However, it's unlikely that we'll see much change in the used market.
