Santorin retires from LoL pro play after 10 years
Danish jungler Santorin has officially retired from competitive League of Legends, after playing for teams like TSM, FlyQuest, and Dignitas.
Santorin's journey began in 2013 when he joined Intellectual Playground, realising his dream of being a professional gamer.
However, after ten years in the league, he took to Twitter on October 8th to announce his retirement.
In his candid Twitter post, Santorin shared the emotional toll his career had taken on him. He revealed the struggles of missing his family and important life events, such as his grandfather's funeral, as well as his own health issues.
Santorin's retirement reflects a shift in priorities. He now places a higher value on family and friendships and believes he can't excel in professional League of Legends without sacrificing those bonds, a sacrifice he's unwilling to make any longer.
Despite the challenges, Santorin had many highlights in his career, competing at the highest level with teams like TSM, FlyQuest, and Dignitas. He played 602 pro games and was even named Rookie of the Split in his debut NA LCS season with TSM in 2015.
Santorin will transition into full-time streaming, where he plans to continue enjoying League of Legends and other esports titles from a new perspective.
