How 5G is going to revolutionize the esports and the video gaming industry?
The fifth generation of cellular technology will exponentially increase the data capacity and internet speed of mobile networks, pushing the gaming and esports industry into a new era
The gamers will be able to say goodbye to the frustrating lagging issues with the advent of 5g. The technology will also help virtual reality and metaverse improve the gaming experience.
Esports has helped make gaming mainstream by offering competitive multiplayer and social experiences to the gamers, and 5g will make the experience even better.
5G will help facilitate live streaming, super fast downloads and a glitch-free experience for the data-hungry video gaming and esports industry. The 5G revolution will offer a lot of things to the gaming industry, such as:
- Unlocking Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality opportunity
- Video game live streaming
- No lag
- Growth in small towns and cities
- Cloud gaming
- Mulitplayer mobile gaming
Vice President of the Asian Esports Federation, Mr Lokesh Suji, said, “5G is going to bring about a paradigm shift in the cloud gaming sector. The superfast speeds, massive bandwidth, and low latency of the 5G Ultra Wideband are going to make gaming more collaborative, competitive, affordable, and accessible. The advent of 5G will be a complete game-changer in every way.”
Airtel held India's first ever cloud gaming demo on a Live 5G test network last year. The demo was attended by several S8UL gamers, including Mortal (Naman Mathur) and 8bit Mamba (Salman Ahmad).
The smartphones used for the Test were connected to a 3500 MHz high capacity spectrum band. The results were astounding, recording a latency of 10 milliseconds and a speed of one Gbps. It proved that 5G tech would have a monumental impact on the experience of multiplayer games such as PUBG, Call of Duty, Freefire and Fortnite.
The founder and CEO of 8bit creatives, Animesh Agarwal said, "One of the reasons why gaming has become so popular in the last few years is the multiplayer & social experience that games are now able to provide, and 5G is expected to make that even smoother. To be honest, 5G will impact gaming in more ways than one."
With the total amount of data that can be exchanged per second, 5G will be the superior option for broadcasting and streaming platforms. It will offer reduced latency and better ping values that deliver high throughput during streaming.
It is crystal clear that esports demonstrates high potential and opportunity considering the exponential growth of the esports market and developments in the network environment.
