They are easy to take on the go, light and powerful. The first handheld console was called Merlin and sold five million units throughout its lifespan since its release in 1978.

    The launch of GameBoy in 1989 revolutionized the gaming industry, selling more than 115 units until it was discontinued in 2003.

The console became one of the biggest successes of Sony as they went on to sell more than 80 million units of Playstation Portable.
