Esports: The biggest prize money winners in eSports
The International, one of the biggest DOTA 2 tournaments in the world, is becoming increasingly popular and successful with every passing year
While the tournament began with a small prize pool of $1.6 million in 2011 and 2012, the prize pool has now increased to over $40 million. The last TI, the tenth season of The International, had a massive prize pool of $40 million, the highest prize money in any eSports tournament ever. While the organisers, Valve, don't invest more than $1.5 million, the fans increase the rest of the prize pool. With DOTA2 gaining immense popularity, the prize money for the tournament is also huge. Next to TI is the Fortnight World Cup Finals of 2019, which had a prize pool of $15.29 million.
Team Spirit, a squad from Russia, won TI 10, winning the biggest prize money in the history of the eSports tournament. The tournament concluded in October 2021 with Team Spirit's victory. While TS barely qualified for the game, seeing them win the biggest eSports prize pool so far was a sight to remember. Of the total prize pool of $40 million, TS won a vast amount of $18 million after beating PSG.LGD 3–2 in the finals.
