A new hall will be home to Club Edward Gaming (EDG), the current world champion in League of Legends (LoL). The Hops On Park, with eSports halls, a five-star hotel, sports facilities, and commercial buildings, is the world's most significant investment for an eSports project.

The park includes two eSports halls, including the larger 15,000-square meters, a 3,000-seat venue that meets professional standards for global eSports events. The other is a 6,000-square-metre EDG hall that will host games and various eSports events throughout the year.

Shanghai-based EDG won the LoL World Championship 2021 (S11), delighting millions of Chinese fans.

The entire park is scheduled to open in 2024 in Hongqiao Qianwan in the Minghang district, according to Super Gen, a significant developer and parent company of the EDG Club.

The park is one of the most significant single investment projects in the global eSports industry and will become a new Shanghai landmark for eSports, extreme sports, culture, and tourism, said Wu Lihua, managing director of Super Gen and president of EDG Club.

In the first half of the year, online gaming revenue in Shanghai reached 62.8 billion yuan (US$8.97 billion), 42 percent of the national level. Revenue from the local eSports industry was 26.9 billion yuan; the CNG research institute said in a report released this month.

The main revenues of the eSports industry include eSports tickets and marketing, club operation, eSports venue construction, and eSports education.
