Esports: MOGO collaborates with Somaiya Vidyavihar University to create India's first official esports arena
The Indian esports community will be stoked to learn that Mumbai's Somaiya Vidyavihar University will be the first institute in India to have an exclusive esports arena
An agreement was made between Mobile Global Esports (MOGO) and Somaiya Vidyavihar University as Indian gaming platforms attempt to expand the limits of the current competitive gaming market.
Indian esports players have been present on international platforms over multiple varieties of games. In the Commonwealth Esports Championship this year, Moin Ejaz, Abhishek Yadav, Ketan Goyal, Shubham Goli, and Vishal Verneka represented the country and picked up bronze for DOTA 2.
Now, MOGO Esports will lock arms with Somaiya Vidyavihar University and strive to create India's first-ever professional esports arena in India which would ideally accommodate a massive seating capacity for live audiences.
The Commonwealth trophy has birthed hope in players, and Indian gaming companies are now anticipating a bright future in the sport.
Somaiya Vidyavihar University will host India's first esports arena
India's first gaming startup Mobile Global Esports Inc., raised INR 55 crores before going public with the NASDAQ. The venture will focus on India and other South Asian markets to expand its esports business.
CEO of MOGO, Sunny Bhandarkar, announced they are happy to be the first to build an esports arena. He is extremely grateful to the management of Somaiya Vidyavihar University, particularly the sports director, for extending help.
Since they began, they have focused on creating a platform for students who could choose gaming as a career option. With this step, they hope to see more universities undertake similar steps.
An esports academy is in the works
In addition, MOGO has locked arms with the university to start an esports academy with certified gaming coaches. The project is expected to commence in November 2022.
Bhandarkar has revealed that MOGO Esports will host a national Call of Duty tournament this year, and the winner will take home prize money worth INR 10 lacs.
The CEO wants the MOGO SVU Esports arena to host more national-level tournaments shortly once the initial phase is over.
Regarding the university's eagerness to popularise esports in India, Aazaz Khan, director of Somaiya Sports Academy at Somaiya Vidyavihar University, has publicly expressed his joy regarding their collaboration with Mobile Global Esports.
He acknowledged Somaiya's desire to promote holistic education through sports, and sports infrastructure has always been one of their top subject areas.
Since gaming is now a rapidly growing sport globally, it made sense for them to create the eSports facility with MOGO's assistance. The news overwhelmed Indian gaming fanatics, and now the community expects to witness the growth of digital icons in India.
