Esports: Mercedes-Benz expands its Esports commitment with Riot Games
German luxury vehicle manufacturer Mercedes-Benz has extended its commitment to Riot Games to 2025
Mercedes-Benz became the exclusive automotive partner of Riot’s global League of Legends esports events in 2020. The partnership between Riot Games and the luxury car brand ends with the official League of Legends esports world championship, the ‘Worlds’ event.
The designing teams of Riot Games and Mercedes-Benz teamed up in 2021 for the championship ring of the ‘Worlds’ team winner.
Mercedes-Benz is collaborating with Aether Diamonds, a company producing diamonds from carbon dioxide extracted from the atmosphere, to create a sustainable diamond for the ring.
Board member of Mercedes-Benz, Bitta Seeger, said, “Winning the hearts of gaming fans is an exciting challenge. Together with Riot Games, we are in the best condition to inspire the community and to successfully shape the future of esports.”
She added, “We are looking forward to continuing our cooperation and remaining an integral part of the global League of Legends family.”
Mercedes-Benz and Riot Games are also working toward various social and ecological issues. Riot Games launched Riot Games Social Impact Fund in 2019 to give direction to their social impact efforts.
Riot Games Social Impact Fund supports more than 400 non-profit organizations worldwide and has distributed more than USD 23 million in grants.
The 2022 edition of the ‘Worlds’ event is set to begin in Mexico City on September 29. The group stage and quarterfinals will happen later in New York, while the semifinals will be in Atlanta, Georgia.
The tournament will culminate with the finals of the Worlds event in San Francisco, California, on November 5. The championship trophy will be presented by the electric car wing of the Mercedes brand, Mercedes-EQ, in the ceremony after the finals.
