eSports Commonwealth Championship: 2 Indian teams qualified for Dota 2 and Rocket League
After winning the South Asian regional qualifier rounds, two Indian teams have qualified for the eSports commonwealth championship for Dota 2 and Rocket League events
The Rocket League team, consisting of 3 members, has acquired the top position in the qualifier by defeating Maldives, Pakistan and Srilanka. Showing a tremendous performance, the Rocket League team won all matches it played, making it to the championship.
The Dota 2 team, meanwhile, acquired the second position in the South Asian regional qualifier round by beating both Bangladesh and Pakistan in one round each and Srilanka in all matches.
The main event is scheduled to take place between August 6 and 8. The planned venue for the event is the International Convention Centre in Birmingham, United Kingdom. India has qualified for 3 out of 2 significant eSports events that will be played during the eSports commonwealth championship. The three major events are Rocket League, Dota 2 and eFootball.
Given how India is still lagging in eSports compared to other countries, it is an excellent accomplishment for India to have 2 of its teams qualify for an international championship with such flying colours.
The Dota 2 team, comprising five members, that has qualified for the tournament consists of Moin Ejaz, Abhishek Yadav, Ketan Goyal, Vishal Vernekar and Shubham Goli. The Rocket League team, on the other hand, that won all the qualifier matches, is led by Hargun Singh, the captain and the remaining two members are named Nirjhar Mehta and Rushil Reddy Yarram.
The DOTA2 team that has qualified for the commonwealth championship is the same team that will also be representing India in the soon-to-happen Asian Games, where eSports has been introduced as a medal event this year itself.
