Teams Collapsing Below 100 Runs in IPL 2022
T20 cricket is much loved by fans because of its dramatic value more than anything else in the match
The short format gives us several unexpected turns and nail-biting endings. There's nothing quite like a batting order collapse when you think about it. The batters will be treating the crease like it's their own backyard with glorious shots up and down the ground, and then, suddenly, everything will break loose. There are many batting collapses in the history of IPL, where a match is lost from a very easily winnable situation. Nothing else compares to watching batters lose their heads while adrenaline courses through bowlers' veins with every ball. So let us have a look at some of the batting order collapses in this season of the Indian Premier League that left us in a complete shock!
RCB's catastrophic collapse at 68 against SRH
The Royal Challengers Bangalore dished out a disastrous batting display against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in match 36 of this season as they were bowled out for just 68 runs. Many would agree that RCB had probably the best team on paper going into their tournament. They certainly have one of the most dangerous batting line-ups, with Du Plessis, Kohli and Maxwell forming the strong line-up. But it all just fell apart after a point against Hyderabad. Talking about RCB's performance, after having been asked to bat first, they suffered a collapse early in the game as Marco Jansen successfully dismissed Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli, and Anuj Rawat in a single over itself. Eventually, the franchise lost wickets at regular intervals, and no batter managed to withstand SRH's bowling line-up. Youngster Suyash Prabhudesai was the top scorer for RCB at 15 runs in 20 balls. In response, chasing a target of 69 runs, SRH chased the small target in just eight overs with a loss of just one wicket, sealing a fantastic nine wickets win over RCB. This was also RCB's 5th anniversary of their infamous 49 all-out against Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2017 edition of the league, which is the lowest ever score in IPL history.
LSG's collapse at 82 against the Titans
In the match between LSG and GT, the Super Giants registered the second lowest total of this season. At the halfway stage during LSG's batting, no one would have thought that the deep batting line-up would be bundled out for just 82 against the table toppers while chasing a modest target of 145 in the IPL 2022. There was no momentum whatsoever in Super Giants' innings as wickets fell in clusters and the high-quality bowling attack of the Titans took full advantage of the sticky pitch. In Lucknow's poor innings, the high scorer was Deepak Hooda with 28 runs, whereas all other batters failed catastrophically. For Gujarat Titans, leg spinner Rashid Khan clinched four wickets in his 3.5 overs. This was the second victory of the Titans over the Super Giants this season.
CSK succumbed at 97 to the 'El Clasico' of the IPL!
Considered one of the most successful franchises, the Chennai Super Kings were bundled out for 97 to be dismissed for their second lowest score in match 59 of the tournament. Nothing has clicked for the defending champions and four-time winners in a must-win clash, including the coin toss. CSK was asked to bat by MI skipper Rohit Sharma at the Wankhede Stadium. Super Kings could never recover from the twin jolts in the first over of their innings. Daniel Sams took Devon Conway and Moeen Ali in the first over before Jasprit Bumrah struck in his first over to send Robin Uthappa back to the pavilion. CSK was unlucky early on because there was no DRS available for a few minutes because of a power failure. CSK lost wickets at regular intervals and found the MI bowlers too challenging to handle, resulting in a terrible failure in the batting line-up. While everyone else failed, skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni top-scored with an unbeaten 36 off 33 balls. For Mumbai Indians, Daniel Sams scalped up three wickets for 16 runs, while there were two wickets apiece for Riley Meredith (2/27) and Kumar Kartikeya (2/22).
