Will Gaikwad and Jadeja be Chennai Super Kings biggest match-winners in 2022
Defending champions Chennai Super Kings are gearing up for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Two of their biggest players, Ravindra Jadeja and Ruturaj Gaikwad are expected to perform exceptionally as they attempt to level with their arch-rivals Mumbai Indians.
The team retained Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni, Moeen Ali and Ruturaj Gaikwad for the latest edition.
Gaikwad was the team's biggest match-winner in 2021 and the Purple Cap holder for scoring the most runs.
Ravindra Jadeja
Jadeja, a fierce all-rounder, has been one of CSK’s indispensable members in the past few seasons. He started off as a bowler but worked on his batting abilities to become a core team player, be it the CSK or the Indian team.
Despite smashing Purple Cap winner Harshal Patel for a record-hitting 37 runs in an over against Royal Challengers Bangalore, CSK retained him for INR 15 crores.
Even Captain MS Dhoni wasn't offered as much. Fans now believe that he could become the next captain of CSK.
Affectionately called the "Rockstar," Jadeja is capable of scoring runs in the back end of the innings, delivering effective run-outs, and taking impressive catches.
His name is always shortlisted for the player of the tournament award.
Ruturaj Gaikwad
Ruturaj Gaikwad, the most stylish CSK opener is known for his ability to score runs.
He is one of the main reasons for the team's progress over recent times. He proved to be a crucial game player at the top of the innings and claimed the Orange Cap in IPL 2021.
As the new season commences, we can expect to see him charge into the opener will full force.
Sadly, he would not have his opening partner Faf du Plessis compliment him in the upcoming match. They finished as the top two run-getters of the previous season.
Although the news might alarm CSK fans, they have full faith in the talented youngster's capacity to form a partnership with any new player.
Fans were further startled when the young legend was ruled out of international matches due to injuries, but he has recovered and is now ready to attack.
Being an opening batter will even pacify his chances of clinching the player of the tournament.
CSK's Strongest
Chennai Super Kings had retained Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni, Moeen Ali and Ruturaj Gaikwad prior to the start of the new edition.
The MS Dhoni-led team is now training for the 15th season in Surat, under the skipper's guidance.
However, things do not look entirely positive for the team due to star bowler Deepak Chahar's recent injury. He is expected to miss a couple of games in the early part of the league.
He hurt himself during team India’s third and final Twenty20 match against West Indies in Kolkata.
The defending champions are looking for a replacement ahead of their first game against last year’s runners-up Kolkata Knight Riders on March 26.
CSK has been one of the best teams in the tournament history with ten play-offs to their credit. Likewise, they will hope to maintain their record this time as well.
