WI vs ENG: Day 3 - Kyle Mayers performance took West Indies close to the series win
After two dead matches of the tour finally, day 3 of this third test ended in a direction of getting a winner. A super intriguing day of Test cricket ended with West Indies on the steering seat.
England has just two wickets left in their second inning with a lead of mere 10 runs. They are again dependent on their tail ender for a partnership that could miraculously save their position in the game. West Indies will be smelling victory from here and will be looking to wrap things up as soon as possible in the first session on Day 4.
West Indies is playing with a winning mindset
Earlier in the day, West Indies was steered out of the trouble by the duo of Jayden Seales and Joshua Da Silva who frustrated the English bowlers as they stitched together a partnership of 52 runs for the last wicket and ensured that they got a healthy lead. Joshua Da Silva went on to score his maiden Test hundred, which set the platform for West Indies' stronghold in the match. When England came to bat for their second inning, it was Caribbean bowlers, especially Kyle Mayers who kept the English batsmen on their toes, and his spell completely shifted the match in West Indies' favor. For England apart from Alex Lees and Jonny Bairstow, no other batter managed to get into double figures, the very reason they are now in deep, deep trouble heading into Day 4.
Kyle Mayers - Star performer of the day
Kyle Mayers ensured that England was put under the pressure constantly and with a fantastic spell of seam/swing bowling he got his five-wicket haul. A superb spell of 5 for 9 from 13 overs completely destroyed England’s chance for a big second inning lead. Kyle Mayers tells BT Sport that watching Da Silva "inspired" him. "The team always wanted this victory so the guys decided we're going to give it our all in this innings and it just worked out." He took Root for the second time in the game and also had Ben Stokes. Kyle Mayers has been the star performer for the Windles and his inclusion in this Test match has turned out to be a terrific decision.
West Indies in steering seat towards the Series win
Chris Woakes and Jack Leach have managed to take the game to Day 4 and England will be hoping for another tail-end partnership to save their spot in the match. Nevertheless, it's West Indies who would be smiling and coming with a double dominance for day 4, as they can smell the victory now. With all the spectacular performances for West Indies, the match so far belongs to them and unless something crazy happens from here on, a series win is theirs for the taking.
