West Indies Vs Bangladesh 2nd Test Day 4: Hosts defeated Bangladesh to sweep the series by 2-0
West Indies won the two-match test series against Bangladesh by 2-0 on the 4th day of the 2nd test in Darren Sammy cricket stadium
The hosts won the first test by seven wickets in Antigua a week ago and the second and final test match by ten wickets chasing a low target of 13 runs. With the series win, West Indies have added 24 ICC WTC points to their name.
Bangladesh was bowled out for a below-par score of 234 on day one, whereas West Indies, in their 1st innings, scored 408 runs as Kyle Mayers played a match-winning knock to score 146. He was the only centurion in the two-match test series between West Indies and Bangladesh. By day 3, Bangladesh were 42 runs behind the hosts with the loss of 6 wickets in their 2nd innings. Bangladesh added 54 runs on day four and avoided an innings defeat. Due to heavy rains before the start, the wet outfield prevented any play in the first session of day 4.
Bangladesh was bowled out for 186 after scoring 54 runs in the 2nd session. Wicket-keeper batsman Nurul Hasan scored an unbeaten 60*(50) as the tailenders failed to support him. With the resistance shown by Nurul, Bangladesh managed to avoid an innings defeat. Jayden Seales, Kemar Roach and Alazarri Joseph picked three wickets each. West Indies openers chased the low target given by Bangladesh in less than three overs to register their 4th win in ICC World Test Championship. Kyle Mayers was adjudged as “Player of the Series” for scoring 153 runs in two innings and picking six wickets.
Kyle Mayers (Player of the Match and Player of the Series) said, “We were in a bit of trouble. I thought staying positive will help and it worked out nicely. I think it is one of the best. I wanted to do well in this series and did so. I try to utilize the conditions with the ball. I carry the same mindset in all formats. In Test cricket, you play a lower percentage of shots and so on as the format changes. Kemar [Roach] is a role model. Every time he steps onto the field, he gives his 110 percent.”
West Indies were clinical throughout the series. Bangladesh put up a better fight in the second test when compared to the first test. Bangladesh’s batting line-up collapse is the main reason for their defeat. Bangladesh coach Russell Domingo said, “our batters are low on confidence at the moment”. Bangladesh must quickly address the issues with their batting to be ready for their next series. With the end of the longer format, West Indies is scheduled to play 3 T20 and 3 ODIs against Bangladesh from 2nd July.
