Vitality T20 Blast: Harry Brook-Jonathan Tattersall led Yorkshire to a rare win against Outlaws
Not a great day for Nottinghamshire Outlaws. There is no more delicate side than theirs in Blast, and they are now lingering at the sixth spot with just two wins from 6
the latest defeat came against Yorkshire by 23 runs. Yorkshire's target of 203, followed by Nottinghamshire tumbling to 50/5, put them ahead in the game.
Yorkshire's top-order had quite an eventful outing, with most of them adding scores consistently and decently to the total. The openers, Finn Allen and Adam Lyth, made 34 off 18, giving a stable start. Further, they witnessed the two most impactful partnerships: David Willey and Harry Brook adding 76 off 37 and Jonathan Tattersall- Will Fraine stitching 65 off 42, of which 43 came from Tattersall's bat. Tattersall came in as a replacement for Tom Kohler-Cadmore, who had to drop out because of long-term concussion issues. Tattersall made the most of the opportunity, grasping the chance to revive his career with an unbeaten 48 off 30 balls. While Tattersall was the leading run-scorer for the team, Harry Brook scored 40 off 25, and David Willey added 34 runs in 19 balls as the significant contributors to the target of 203.
Nottinghamshire had a disappointing start while chasing as David Willey struck Alex Hales at a duck on the second ball. Dominic Drake took second in the form of Samit Patel in second over for a duck. And this way, in no time, Nottinghamshire found themselves lingered at 50 at a loss of 5 wickets. A revival inning came from Steven Mullaney. He and skipper Dan Christian built a mammoth partnership of 114 runs in 65 balls. However, Jordan Thompson and Dominic Drakes dismissed Christian and Mullaney for 56 and 79 runs. As the top-order failed, they reached 179 at a loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs.
Doubts were also encouraged because Yorkshire had not beaten Nottinghamshire Outlaws since 2017 and had to defend their total on another excellent Leeds batting surface. They did well in starting, looked to lose the plot with Steven Mullaney and Dan Christian reviving the team's hopes and then made a comeback to win the match by 23 runs. Yorkshire's next clash with Lancashire Lighting on 8th June, whereas Nottinghamshire will lock horns with Leicestershire Foxes on 10th June 2022.
