T20 Blast-Match Review: Yorkshire Vikings vs Derbyshire Falcons
A rain-affected match slipped in favour of Derbyshire as Matthew Waite failed to defend 19 runs in the final over against Leus de Plooy.
Earlier, Yorkshire, batting first, observed Finn Allen playing a cameo of scoring 37 off 17, formed of 4 maximums and one boundary. This gave Yorkshire a start of 62 runs in the powerplay. However, he became the third quick wicket to fall as they lost Adam Lyth (8) and Tom Kohler-Cadmore (0) early. Following the three quick wickets, skipper Harry Brook emerged as the highest run-scorer for his team. He scored 77 runs from 50 balls at a strike rate of 154. Apart from him, Shadab Khan added 26 runs. The rest of the batting line-up stumbled as Mark Watt and George Scrimshaw took three-wicket hauls, and Hayden Kerr struck two wickets. The team successfully posted a total of 175 in 20 overs.
The rain-hit second inning led to a revised target of 105 in 10 overs. The chase game started with the dominance of Dominic Leech as he took two early wickets of Luis Reece and Wayne Madsen. The team looked to skid and lost control of the game, and then came a 62-run stand between skipper Shan Masood and Leus de Plooy. Shan Masood scored 34 before losing his wicket to Dominic Leech, whereas Leus de Plooy scored an unbeaten 48 off 20 at a strike rate of 240 to seal the win with six wickets and two balls remaining for Derbyshire.
Even after losing, Yorkshire remains in the fourth spot, a rank ahead of Derbyshire Falcons. The other two fixtures of Gloucestershire vs Glamorgan and Worcestershire vs Northamptonshire saw no results as matches got abandoned with a toss.
