Virat Kohli's form this year
The fifteenth edition of the Indian Premier League has not begun in an ideal manner for the former RCB captain, Virat Kohli. The batter, in six games, has scored just 119 runs in the current edition of IPL.
He is yet to achieve a 50-plus score in the ongoing tournament, although he has played two sublime knocks of 40-plus.
Virat Kohli came into the tournament with his batting form under a critic, having not made a century in international cricket in more than two years. After leaving the captaincy of both the Indian team and Royal Challengers Bangalore over the last few months, this tournament was seen as the ideal opportunity for Kohli to play his natural game. However, his inconsistent form has raised many concerns and questions about his comeback.
Kohli’s ups and downs throughout IPL 2022
In RCB’s first match of the tournament, against Punjab Kings, everyone was excited about Kohli’s comeback. The batsman delivered an appreciable knock of unbeaten 41 runs in 29 balls, setting a challenging target of 206 for the opponents. However, despite this mammoth target, Royal Challengers Bangalore lost their inaugural match, but Kohli’s small and furious inning gave everyone hope of his comeback. In his second match against Kolkata Knight Riders, RCB, batting second, lost the first wicket and Kohi walked in to bat. He seemed in a great flow as he hit two boundaries in early deliveries. However, his attempt to drive the bowl failed just by edging the bat, and the wicketkeeper didn’t miss the chance. Kohli departed just by scoring 12 runs which disappointed many. In the third match against Rajasthan Royals, Kohli walked in when RCB was one down. He looked pretty careful and tried not to make the same mistake again. However, he and David Willey caused a blunder, which cost Kohli’s unnecessary run-out just by scoring five runs. However, Kohli didn’t disappoint his fans in their fourth match against Mumbai Indians by scoring a brilliant knock of 48, missing his half-century by two runs. In the fifth match against Chennai Super Kings, he again couldn’t control himself, pulling a well-planned short delivery which was caught by the mid-wicket fielder sending off Kohli for just one run. In the match against Delhi Capitals, Kohli made the same blunder and got run out for just 12 runs. Overall, in six games, Kohli has scored 119 runs with a poor average of 23.8, which is a significant concern for Kohli and RCB management.
Aakash Chopra said, “Virat is absolutely sensational when it comes to this [Wankhede] ground. Can we get to see a lot of runs from his bat today? For RCB, it is absolutely imperative that he gets back among the runs.”
Virat Kohli is known for his aggression and dedication to the game. He is indeed a great player, and his records are unmatchable. Though he is not in good form currently, the raging beast won’t stay away from scoring big for a long time, and we can surely expect the batter to do great things further.
