Daren Sammy appointed West Indies white-ball head coach
Former West Indies captain Daren Sammy will lead his country at this year's World Cup after being appointed as head coach of the white-ball teams.
Two-time T20 World Cup winning captain Daren Sammy has been named West Indies white-ball head coach.
Sammy, a seam bowler and powerful ball-striker during his playing days, was skipper when the Windies became T20 world champions in 2012 and 2016.
Since retirement in 2020 he has taken coaching appointments in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and Caribbean Super League (CPL).
The 39-year-old will now front the islanders' limited-overs sides, after Cricket West Indies (CWI) opted to split the coaching roles.
Andre Coley, who had been in interim charge since Phil Simmons' departure, takes over the Test side.
Sammy, whose tenure begins with a three-match series against the United Arab Emirates in June, said: "I'm really looking forward to the opportunity, especially looking at the players we have and the impact that I believe I can have in the dressing room.
"I believe I will bring the same approach as I had as a player: the passion, the desire for success, and my undying love for West Indies cricket.
"I'm looking forward to imparting my knowledge, my tactical acumen, my communication skills and my man-management skills."
England head to the Caribbean for a white-ball tour in December, with games at Barbados, Antigua, Grenada and Trinidad.
