Top 3 Longest Sixes of IPL 2022
The Indian Premier League (IPL) has provided a platform for aspiring athletes while also enthralling viewers. The IPL is so entertaining to watch because of the fierceness of the rivalry and the fact that it brings together the world's best cricketers in one spot.
Another feature of the IPL that has helped it become one of the top domestic T20 competitions in the world is the batters' ability to clear the ropes at will.
The number of sixes that fans get to see during T20 cricket matches is the most entertaining feature of the game. Six-hitting is about more than just power. There are various types of six-hitters in cricket. While players like Andre Russell, MS Dhoni, and David Miller rely on physical strength and power, Rohit Sharma, Dewald Brevis (the new sensation) and Robin Uthappa rely on timing.
IPL 2022 has also already witnessed many players hitting long sixes, some of which were longer than 100 metres. There were a few massive sixes in the tournament that eventually entered the records. The sixes were too good to watch, so let's discuss five of them in detail below:
- Dewald Brevis (112m and 102m Vs Punjab Kings)
South African teenager Dewald Brevis has been fondly called 'Baby AB' even before entering the Indian Premier League (IPL) because of his batting style's resemblance to AB de Villiers'. The 18-year-old Brevis demonstrated why the world sees the reflection of Proteas' icon Ab de Villiers in him in the clash of Mumbai Indians against Punjab Kings. It's only his first season, and he has hit some humongous sixes already.
Brevis had his most productive over against leg-spinner Rahul Chahar. Mumbai Indians conceded 29 runs off six balls in a single over, with the uncapped South African power hitter dealing only in boundaries and sixes. The second ball went for a boundary, whereas the final four deliveries of the over went for humongous sixes, the final one being the biggest six of the IPL 2022, which was a huge six of 112 meters.
Apart from topping the list of longest six in the season so far, the youngster also grabs the spot of the fourth largest six, which came in the same over of Rahul Chahar. The fourth-largest six went for a distance of 102 metres in that over.
He has amazed everyone with his batting skills and made it crystal clear that he's an upcoming star.
- Liam Livingstone (108m and 105m vs Chennai Super Kings)
Liam Livingstone, a power-hitting all-rounder for Punjab Kings, showed what he is capable of by scoring his first IPL fifty against Chennai Super Kings. Livingstone, who had struggled to score runs in the first two games, played a 60-run counter-attacking knock against the reigning champions to help his team reach 180/8 in 20 overs.
Liam Livingstone hit an enormous 108-metre six during his fierce knock, which is the second-longest six of the seasons so far. Livingstone smacked young Mukesh Choudhary over mid-wicket for a stunning six into the bleachers with the opening delivery of the fifth over.
Livingstone has also hammered the third-longest six of the competition, measuring 105 metres, which comes as no surprise. He is showing his power-hitting abilities in every match, and it would be no surprise if he ends up hitting the longest of the tournament as the league has just begun.
- Shivam Dube (102m vs Royal Challengers Bangalore)
Chennai Super Kings batting all-rounder Shivam Dube played arguably the knock of the 2022 IPL so far in his side's clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Mumbai.
In that match, Dube also enlisted his name in the top 5 sixes of the season. Dube and IPL veteran Robin Uthappa helped Chennai Super Kings come back from 60-2 in the first ten overs to record a mammoth final total of 216/4, the highest total of the 2022 IPL so far. The pair embarked on a 165-run stand, the most extensive third-wicket partnership in IPL history.
Shivam Dube's massive hit off the bowling of Australia's T20 World Cup winner Josh Hazlewood was one of the innings' best shots. Shivam Dube smashed Josh Hazlewood for a huge six over the bowler's head with the opening delivery of the final CSK over. The hit was eventually assessed at 102 metres. It's the fifth-longest six in this tournament.
