The power of left-handers in IPL 2022
From the beginning, left-handed batters have dominated the cricketing globe. Left-handed people carry a distinct personality. They have a significant impact on sport despite their small numbers, whether it's because of their lethargic elegance, appealing footwork, timing, or attacking style of play.
In the IPL, too, some intriguing and skilled left-handed batsmen have gone on to dominate the tournament.
The IPL season 15 has just begun, and we have already seen some great knocks by left-handers. Here, we will have a look at five left-hand batters who are expected to prove very effective for their respective franchises this season.
With their stroke play, shot selection, aggressive style of play, and ability to play the big shots during essential occasions, these players on the list have appeared far from adequate for their teams.
Quinton De Kock – Lucknow Super Giants
Quinton de Kock, the South African wicket-keeper batsman, was snapped up for Rs 6.75 crore by the Lucknow Super Giants during the IPL 2022 mega auction. Given the amount of money spent at the auction on uncertain players, Lucknow has found their first-choice opener and wicket-keeper in Quinton De Kock, who is relieving skipper KL Rahul of the responsibility of keeping wickets.
He sits at 17th place in the list of leading run-scorers of the season, with 215 runs in just seven matches with an impressive strike rate of 134.38. Alongside KL Rahul, he's giving a head start to Lucknow Super Giants and has proved to be very useful for the team.
Ishan Kishan – Mumbai Indians
The 23-year-old opener, who became the most expensive buy of the IPL 2022 auction when Mumbai Indians repurchased him for Rs 15.25 crore, proves his worth as he's consistently scoring runs for the team.
He has an average of 31.83 this season as he has scored 191 runs in 7 matches.
In the very first match of the season, Ishan showed how mature he has become as he guided Mumbai Indians' innings to a battling total of 177 runs against Delhi Capitals with an unbeaten 81.
David Warner – Delhi Capitals
At the IPL 2022 mega auction, Delhi Capitals acquired former Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper David Warner for INR 6.25 crore. Warner, an IPL veteran and one of the league's most delicate international batters, has been a reliable run-scorer over the years.
He played his first match for Delhi on 7 April as he was committed to playing International cricket for Australia. In his second match of the season, David Warner made his first half-century for Delhi Capitals against Kolkata Knight Riders. Warner hit six fours and two sixes in 45 deliveries to score 61 runs. He has already accumulated 219 runs in 5 matches played so far, with three half-centuries.
Thanks to his destructive knock, Warner was able to add another milestone to his already remarkable career by passing 5500 runs in the IPL. We can expect many more milestones from him in the future of the IPL.
Rahul Tewatia
In the IPL 2022 mega auction, uncapped Indian all-rounder Rahul Tewatia was purchased by Gujarat Titans, one of the two new franchises, for a whopping INR 9 crore.
The youngster has already earned quite a lot of fame among big names of IPL as he's making unexpected things happen since 2020 on the field.
The recent extraordinary performance that came from him was when Gujarat Titans required 12 runs off the last two balls, and Rahul Tewatia's consecutive sixes of the last two balls of the match made it possible for Gujarat Titans to beat Punjab Kings.
Rishabh Pant – Delhi Capitals
Rishabh Pant has been with the Delhi Capitals since the 2016 IPL season, and it is only in 2018 that he has become a significant contributor to the team. He was retained by Delhi Capitals in IPL 2022 and had been leading them since the second half of IPL 2021.
He bats down the order but has been quite effective from the bat as he has scored 188 runs in 7 innings with a strike rate of 154.10. His valuable innings helped the team a lot in achieving fighting totals.
