The 25-year-old was initially supposed to travel on 1st October but was rescheduled following his request. However, he informed the board that he wouldn't be able to make it in time to catch the flight due to family reasons.

West Indies have their first T20I scheduled against Australia on 5 October, just a few days before the World Cup. Thus, the cricket board opted to replace him with Shamarh Brooks to avoid any effect on the team's preparation for the World cup.

"Whilst we changed Shimron's flight from Saturday to Monday due to family reasons, it was made clear to him that if there were any further delays and issues with his travel to Australia then we would have no choice but to replace him in the squad, as we are not prepared to compromise the team's ability to prepare for this extremely important global event," said Director of Cricket, Jimmy Adams.

The 'personal reasons' for missing both the flights have cost him a spot in the World Cup squad. The news disappointed many fans as the power-hitter is a splendid performer in the T20 format.

Shamarh Brooks has played 10 T20I innings, scoring 214 runs with an average of 23.77 and a strike rate of 107. Though his numbers are not as prominent as Shimron Hetmyer's, his recent performance in CPL has been a source of confidence for the cricket board.

"Shamarh has been a part of our recent T20 International squads and delivered strong performances in the latter stages of the recently concluded CPL. He will fly out as soon as possible this week to Australia and I wish him and all the squad all the very best for the tournament," added Jimmy Adams.

Jasprit Bumrah ruled out of the World Cup

It's official now that team India will enter the World Cup without their best attacker - Jasprit Bumrah.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has confirmed that Indian spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the upcoming ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022.

"The BCCI medical team has ruled out eam India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah from the ICC Men's T20 World Cup squad. The decision was taken following a detailed assessment and in consultation with the specialists," said the Indian cricket governing body on Monday, 3rd October.

Jasprit Bumrah had earlier missed the Asia Cup and underwent rehab at National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. He made a comeback in the series against Australia but again suffered trouble in the lower back. Due to this, he got ruled out of the ongoing series against South Africa.

"I am gutted that I won't be a part of the T20 World Cup this time, but thankful for the wishes, care and support I've received from my loved ones. As I recover, I'll be cheering on the team through their campaign in Australia," tweeted Jasprit Bumrah.

Mohammed Siraj replaced him in the series with the hope that he could be a part of the World Cup squad. But now, the 28-year-old has been ruled out of the mega event by the BCCI medical team. Earlier, the star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja got ruled out due to a knee injury.

This has left team India with another significant setback and unanswered question about who can be a suitable replacement for the pacer in the squad for the World Cup.
