Sunrisers Hyderabad: Can it be the Surprise team in 2022
Champions of the 2016 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Sunrisers Hyderabad no longer retains its vigor. Their controversial tiff with former skipper and Australian cricketer David Warner worsened their case.
However, they will expect to redeem their reputation in the upcoming edition. 2021 ended with the club positioned at the bottom of the table and the scarring exit of captain David Warner. Furthermore, the entry of two new teams in the 2022 edition will pose more challenges for the washed-out franchise. The Sunrisers do not look strong enough to trump big names like Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai. However, they possibly have a few redeeming strengths that could overturn their harrowed fate!
The Sun Rises for Hyderabad
The Sunrisers Hyderabad have a commendable bowling lineup. They have talented names like T Natrajan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Marco Jansen, Kartik Tyagi, Umran Malik, Shreyas Gopal, and J Suchith. All-rounder Washington Sundar will feature as the premium bowler owing to his fantastic off-spin. With regard to the batting lineup, Kane Williamson is their perceptive manager who could capitalize on their middle order that is filled with inexperienced players. Nicholas Pooran's six-hitting abilities are also something to watch out for. The team will be looking forward to creating a stronger unit around the Kiwi and the players that have been retained, Kane Williamson, Abdul Samad, and Umran Malik.
Hyderabad About to Revamp its Batting Lineup
The opening batters in the match have to be reliable and steady in order to set the pace of the game. Hyderabad earlier had Warner and Bairstow's support which enhanced their gameplay. Additionally, they have also sent Wriddhiman Saha and Manish Pandey up top a few times which have also brought in memorable wins. In the 2022 edition, Abhishek Sharma and Kane Williamson might start off their batting innings (as predicted by Ravichandran Ashwin) followed by Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran, and Rahul Tripathi as possible top-order batters.
The franchise is reputed to be street-smart in its approach and clever with its choice of players. The middle-order of batters has not been as efficient in the previous edition of the IPL. The ability to close a match is also important in the league so the club will attempt to improve their middle order with quality batters.
Bowling Could Be Their Strongest Suit
Hyderabad will have a good hold over their pace attack. With Umran Malik and Abdul Samad among their top pacers, this could be Hyderabad's chance to redeem itself. They also bought pacer Sean Abbott for INR 2.40 crores besides bringing back two former pacers of the men in Orange namely Bhuvneshwar and T Natarajan. Young pacer Kartik Tyagi also made the cut.
Among the spinners, they have Shreyas Gopal, Jagadeesha Suchith, and Fazalhaq Farooqui. The franchise could also benefit from its long lineup of all-rounders namely Washington Sundar, Abdul Samad, Marco Jansen, Abhishek Sharma, Romario Shepherd, and Shashank Singh. The Sunrisers Hyderabad will face the Rajasthan Royals in their first match of IPL 2022 on March 29, 2022.
