Stars of T20 Vitality blast: Sam Curran Surrey Star after skipping IPL
Many players who starred in the Indian Premier League until the fourteenth edition decided to skip this year's league. Chris Gayle didn't register himself for the mega-auctions; Ben Stokes and Sam Curran chose not to return for the 2022 edition
In addition, Jason Roy and Alex Hales, though bought in the auction, withdrew from the tournament, citing bubble fatigue as the reason.
Sam Curran had been a crucial part of the defending champions Chennai Super Kings over the past few years. He has been the kind of all-rounder that the franchise needed, who took 32 wickets in 32 matches and played at a strike rate of nearly 150 to score 337 runs. However, the young all-rounder decided not to participate in IPL due to injury.
He stated, "I was gutted not to go to the IPL. It was hard to take, but it was the sensible thing to do – to concentrate on playing for Surrey and getting back ready to play some red-ball cricket, which is something I haven't done for a while with Surrey".
The 23-year-old young fellow has been making headlines for his remarkable contribution to Surrey in the ongoing T20 Vitality Blast on recovery from injury. In the recent match, he produced a valuable performance with bat and ball to thrash Hampshire by 72 runs. He made 69 off 38 balls to post 228/4, their second-best total in T20 history. Apart from the bat, he took a five-wicket haul conceding 30 runs and helped dismiss Hampshire for 156. Before this against Gloucestershire, put up a solid performance to help them win by 37 runs. He scalped four wickets to concede just 14 runs in 3 overs.
