South Africa vs Bangladesh Test 1 Day 3: South Africa lead by 75 runs at stumps
The hosts will be happier at the end of Day 3 as they lead Bangladesh by 75 runs at the end of day 3. The game was stopped due to bad light as even spinners found it hard bowling. A slight drizzle in the end even made it worse.
Inning saving knock of 137 runs by Mahmudul Hasan Joy
The day was resumed by Bangladesh batting at 98/4. The nightwatchman got dismissed early for 10-ball 1. However, Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Litton Das built a 171-ball partnership scoring 82 runs. They ensured the team didn’t get any further setbacks soon. Litton Das got bowled at 41, whereas the star performer Mahmudul Hasan Joy, the 21-year-old playing in only his 3rd Test, held the innings together and was the last man out but not before making 137. This was his maiden Test hundred and the first Bangladesh player to score a hundred against South Africa. His innings became quite frustrating for the bowlers as he stitched crucial partnerships with the lower-middle order and brought the team’s deficit below 100. Lizaad William, the debutant, shined today with the ball as he scalped three crucial wickets of Taksin Ahmed, Litton Das and Mahmudul Hasan Joy. After the first innings, the complete team got dismissed for 298, trailing by 69 runs.
A 75-run lead followed by bad light
In response, when South African openers Sarel Erwee and Dean Elgar opened the second innings, the game hardly went for four overs. It went dark, and spinners had to come on after just one over of pace. But soon, the spinners too faced hard to bowl with the light. Thus bad light stopped the play early. And with this day ended for hosts at the lead of 75 runs.
Now it all depends on the fourth day. Will the conditions favor South African batters to generate a huge lead, or will Bangladesh bowlers be able to restrict hosts well in time. Can they make early inroads on a penultimate day?
