Shane Watson is calling Finch a liability for the T20 world cup

Australia's white-ball captain Aaron Finch has not been performing now. The skipper joined Indian Premier League 2022 as the replacement of Alex Hales for Kolkata Knight Riders

Finch never had quite a successful stint in IPL, and this opportunity would have been perfect for him to break the jinx.

Form an issue for T20 World Cup

With KKR already struggling for stability in the form of Venkatesh Iyer as an opener, Aaron Finch could have been a perfect opener but turned out to be a disappointment only. Apart from one decent knock against Rajasthan Royals, Finch looked struggling on almost all occasions. He scored 86 in five innings, of which 58 came against Rajasthan Royals.

His countrymate Shane Watson believes that if he continues to be in this form, it can become a significant liability for the next T20 World Cup. Shane Watson said, "Unfortunately, right now, the way he's [Aaron Finch] batting and what I've seen during this IPL, he's batting nowhere near his best. Whatever is going on, the things he's working on with his technique and mindset, it's changed a lot from when he's been at his best."

He added, "I believe if he's not scoring runs in the lead up to the T20 World Cup, and it's along similar lines to what we saw here for KKR, you can't pick him. At the moment he's [Finch] so far out of touch, no matter how good your captaincy skills are, if he continues to bat the way he is, it would be a big liability, especially as an opener."

    Coach's faith in Finch

Though Australia's interim coach Justin Langer remarked that he's not worried about his recent form, these things keep happening with a player in the long run.

When asked about the possibility of a captain change, McDonald, the front-runner to succeed Langer as a full-time coach, said, "From my end, there's no conversation around the (possibility) that he won't be there. His (Finch) form can ebb and flow — like most players' can — and his ability to work through these patches has been significant in his career. We had the same conversation about David Warner leading into the T20 World Cup last (year), so all these conversations will happen."
