1985-2021: The Changing Shades of Indian Cricket Jersey.

Since 1985, when the Indian cricket team wore a colored jersey for the first time, today, Indian cricket Jersey has changed multiple times. From the lightest blue to the darkest, the Indian team has worn all shades of blue, giving them the name: men in blue. Here are some of the most appreciated jerseys of India in cricket.

1985: The first colored Indian jersey.

In the Benson and Hedges World Championship of Cricket, the Indian team wore a coloured jersey for the first time. Their first jersey was a light blue colored pants and t-shirt with yellow collar. The jersey lacked any sponsors, names of the players or the name of the country.

    1992: First World Cup Jersey.

The first time India wore a colored jersey in the world cup was the 1992 Benson and Hedges World Cup that was held in Australia and Newzealand. The jersey was dark blue in colour with the name of the country in the front and the name of the players at the back. The jersey also had multicolored stripes on the shoulders. The overall look of the jersey was extremely rich in color combination and was liked by fans.

1994: Sachin Tendulkar's debut as an opening batsman in ODI.

In 1994, when Tendulkar made his debut as an opening batsman against New Zealand, the team was wearing a navy blue jersey with a hint of yellow. The blue-yellow combination in jerseys continued till 1999 and the 1994 jersey was considered one of the most stylish jerseys.

    1996: Wills World Cup.

From navy blue till 1994, the Indian cricket team went back to a lighter shade of blue during the 1996 World Cup hosted by India, Pakistan and Srilanka. The jersey consisted of light blue pants and t-shirts with yellow collars and rainbow colors on the front and at the end of the sleeves.

1999: The Sky Blue World Cup Jersey.

Very similar to the one worn by the team in the 1996 world cup, the team again wore a sky blue jersey, this time with a black and yellow BCCI emblem in the front. This Jersey is still made and sold to many fans owing to its incredible popularity.

    2003: World Cup Finals Jersey.

It was the first time in 2003 that India wore a blue jersey without a hint of yellow. The jersey was in a shade of blue that was darker than the 1999 World Cup jersey. The blue jersey had tricolor bars in the front with the name of the country written on it. The 2003 World Cup finals is one of the most loved matches ever. Even though India lost to Australia in the finals, the jersey worn by the Indian team in the World Cup is still remembered.

2010: Sachin Tendulkar's double century in ODI.

After wearing light blue jerseys for many years, Team India wore a navy blue jersey in an ODI tournament against South Africa. The jersey was in navy blue color with a stripe of tricolor on the right side. Tendulkar made the first double century in a 50-over match in this navy blue Jersey.

2011: India's World Cup winning Jersey.

After 28 years of the Indian team winning the World Cup under the leadership of Kapil Dev, India won another World Cup in 2011. Under the leadership of MS Dhoni, the Indian team wore a deep blue colored jersey, lighter than navy blue yet darker than the sky blue ones, with the name of the country and the name of the players written in saffron color. The jersey continued for another decade as was most loved by the fans due to the team's victory in the World Cup.

2015: Recycled Plastic Bottles used to make the Jersey.

In the 2015 World Cup, Nike sponsored the Jersey made out of 33 recycled plastic bottles. The Jersey was very similar to the one worn by the team in 2015 but with patterns of darker blue running throuh the Jersey and the saffron colored names were written with a white border.

2019: Indian team wore an orange Jersey.

It was the first time in the 2019 World Cup that India wore an orange jersey, sponsored by Nike again. The jersey was a bright orange color with navy blue in the front.

2021: The navy blue T-20 World Cup Jersey.

The Indian team wore a navy blue jersey contrary to the orange jersey worn in 2019. The saffron colored names of the country and the players have been continuing since 2011 and were seen in 2021as well. The 2023 World Cup Jersey of the team remains to be seen.
