Seven Indians to feature in Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League
A total of seven Indian players will be taking part in the forthcoming Dhaka Premier League one-day tournament. The opportunity comes due to the free window for the domestic Indian players, who did not get any bids in the 2022 Indian Premier League.
The 28-year-old Indian batsman Hanuma Vihari has signed with Abahani Limited. He will be joining them in Dhaka after a short break in Hyderabad. Hanuma was part of the Indian squad that recently won the series against Sri Lanka by 2-0 at home on March 14, 2022.
Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League is Bangladesh's prestigious List A competition. The tournament will feature a total of seven Indian cricketers in the ongoing season. Although the tournament did not allow the teams to sign up foreign players during the last two seasons, it has been decided as per the new rules of the Dhaka Premier League that the 11 participating teams will each be allowed to recruit one overseas player in the team.
Along with Vihari, six other Indian players will be joining the 11-team competition. Promising Indian batter Abhimanyu Easwaran has been picked by Prime Bank Cricket Club, Parvez Rasool, who has previous experience playing in the Indian Premier League has been signed by joined Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi, Tamil Nadu’s Baba Aparajith will be playing for Rupganj Tigers, Ashok Menaria has signed up by Khelaghar, Chirag Jani with Legends of Rupganj and Gurinder Singh with Gazi Group of Cricketers.
Along with seven Indian players, Pakistani all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez has been signed by Mohammedan Sporting Club and Zimbabwean all-rounder Sikandar Raza will be playing for Shinepukur Cricket Club. Due to Hanuma Vihari’s schedule issues, Najibullah Zadran, a middle-order batsman from Afghanistan will be playing the first three matches for Abahani Limited.
West Bengal captain Abhimanyu Easwaran will be returning with Prime Bank cricket club for his third season, having previously played with them in 2017 and 2019. He recently received approval from BCCI to participate in the invitational tournament on March 14, 2022, and was able to fly to Dhaka for the month and a half long tournament.
Abhimanyu commented on his participation in the tournament and said, "It gives me an opportunity to play more games and face different types of quality bowling attack,"
