Retained players who are on bench in IPL 2022
As the fifteenth edition of the Indian Premier League is moving forward, we see many players turning their opportunities into great performances. However, many players were retained by their respective franchises with immense faith and expectations.
However, some of them failed to meet the expectations, and ultimately, they lacked opportunities from the management. Before the mega auctions, the eight teams were given a choice to retain four players. The players kept looking at the team's future and the players' previous performances with the team. However, these players have failed to justify the team's decision due to their low performance till now. Let's look at some of these retained players; however, they lacked opportunities due to their intense performances!
Yashasvi Jaiswal
Rajasthan Royals retained the young Indian opener who played the previous season brilliantly before the mega auctions. Yashasvi Jaiswal was a star performer as a youngster for Rajasthan Royals last season. In the previous season of the tournament, the young batter scored 249 runs in his ten innings as an opener with an appreciable strike rate of 148. He was the prime reason for the team's excellent batting line-up the previous year. Looking at his performance in the last season and with a future aspect, RR chose Yashaswi Jaiswal as their young retention for the current edition of the league. However, he was in the playing eleven for just three matches. In the three games, the batter scored just 25 runs with a poor strike rate of 104.17. It was the main reason for his absence from the playing eleven for most of the matches.
Abdul Samad
The young Indian talent hailing from Jammu and Kashmir was a hot topic the previous year as he stunned everyone with his furious knocks last year. Like Rajasthan Royals, the 2016 champions Sunrisers Hyderabad also bet on the young Indian talent and retained Abdul Samad before the mega auctions for INR 4 crore. However, the youngster couldn't start the tournament the way the franchise expected from him. He hardly scored any runs in the first two matches. In the first match, he managed to score just four runs, while in the second match, he was sent back for a duck. Apart from the bat, the all-rounder was given just one over to bowl in that match. He conceded eight runs in the single over bowled by him.
Consequently, he was dropped for the team's third game against Chennai Super Kings to make way for Shashank Singh. And even though his replacement has not done anything significant so far, the team is winning matches and looking like a more balanced unit, so the chances of the 20-year-old hard-hitting all-rounder getting his place back are almost closed. Ultimately, Samad failed to make his way into the eleven for further matches till now.
