England, which began cricket, has always been rich with their domestic leagues but when IPL offered fame, competition, and a cash-rich platform and English players gave a focus on this tournament as well. After the recently concluded edition of IPL, the English county cricket started in their T20 and 4-day format. Here are English players who participated in the IPL 2022, then went back to their domestic games and struggled in this English summer.

    Moeen Ali

Moeen Ali has become integral to IPL while playing for Chennai Super Kings as an all-rounder. He adds a lot of value to the team with his experience in the game. Though CSK failed to make its mark in the 15th edition of IPL, Moeen Ali made valuable contributions to the team after joining late. He scored 244 runs in 10 innings at an average strike rate of 24.4 and 137.9. These numbers got significantly reduced while playing in Vitality. His average was reduced to 9.6, and his strike rate fell to 98 in the five innings he played for Worcestershire Rapids.

Even his bowling figures got affected significantly. From taking eight wickets and performing at an economy of 6.63 in IPL, he was able to scalp just four wickets in 5 innings with a high economy of 9.36.

    Chris Jordan

Chris Jordan is a fast bowler who bowls fearsome yorkers with calmness and found his niche as a death-over specialist for England. The bowler has played for many franchises in the IPL. This year he represented CSK and failed to mark his presence as he could only take two wickets in 4 matches. Carrying forward from CSK in IPL to Surrey in Vitality, the bowler did improve his numbers but was still behind his career’s best. From once having a strike rate and average of 15.2 and 18.3, his numbers now average at 18.2 and 24.7, respectively. In the 11 matches for Surrey this season, he has scalped 13 wickets carrying a decent economy of 7.72.

    Tom Banton

The dynamic wicket-keeper batter burst into the England domestic scene in 2017 and emerged as the star in 2019 while playing for Somerset. The season witnessed batter smashing a mammoth 549 runs in 13 innings, averaging 42.2 and striking at 161.5. He fetched four fifties and one century in the outing. After this breathtaking performance episode, he bagged an IPL contract in 2020 from Kolkata Knight Riders but had a terrible play scoring 18 runs in 2 matches. In the ongoing edition of Blast, the batter also looked to be struggling while averaging 18.8 to score 226 runs in 12 innings. Since then, he didn’t get a chance in the IPL but continued playing for Somerset.
