Players who made a mark in IPL, but the teams they represent are out of the IPL playoffs
The best four teams, Gujarat Titans, Rajasthan Royals, Lucknow Super Giants, and Royal Challengers Bangalore of the Indian Premier League, have made it to the playoffs
These teams have been consistent with their performance and put their best foot forward as a team to put their names in the top four spots. However, apart from these teams, a few players from other teams missed out due to the team's failure, but their presence would have made their knockouts even richer.
Kuldeep Yadav
Left-arm wrist spin is a rare field of expertise in cricket. Delhi Capitals' left-arm wrist spinner renaissance added fascinating sight on the cricket field in this season of IPL. Getting rarely a few games to play since 2019, Kuldeep Yadav got his form back this season. He has scalped 21 wickets in 14 games at an average of 19.95. He carried a phenomenal economy of 8.44 this season. Even the bowler claimed that he has been able to find his rhythm and enjoy bowling. Delhi Capitals got knocked out of the playoffs race in their last match against Mumbai Indians, making room for Royal Challengers Bangalore to find a spot in the top 4. Had Delhi qualified, the wrist-spinner would have stolen the show for the franchise.
Rahul Tripathi
Even though the Sunrisers Hyderabad campaign ended on a losing note against Punjab Kings, Rahul Tripathi continued to be the talk of the cricket fraternity. The right-handed batter impressed everyone with his consistency and presence on the field. He has gathered a mammoth of 413 runs in 14 matches with an average strike rate of 37.55 and 158.24, respectively. He has notched three fifties and clobbered 40 fours and 20 maximums. He has been among the highest run-getters for his team in this edition. He would have been a player to watch out for if SRH qualified for playoffs.
Liam Livingstone
Punjab Kings had a hot and cold season in this edition. However, they managed to end on a high note owing to one of their most consistent all-rounders, Liam Livingstone. The player blistered 437 runs in 14 innings at an average of 36.42 and a strike rate of 182.08. He has four half-centuries this season. However, what caught everyone's attention was his power-hitting flexes. The batter smashed 29 boundaries and 34 sixes, including this edition's longest six. Besides bat, he took six wickets in 12 innings, having bowled with an economy of 8.78. He would have been a perfect all-rounder to see taking wickets and smashing boundaries in playoffs.
Tilak Varma
Tilak Varma had featured only in a few domestic crickets after getting picked by Mumbai Indians. The youngster batted with elan throughout the season. He became the youngest player to score a half-century for the Mumbai Indians. He amassed 397 runs in 14 games at an average of 36.09 and a strike rate of 131.02. While the complete Mumbai Indians squad looked struggling, he was the only one in the middle to anchor the innings for his franchise whenever in a difficult spot. He has been one of the best finds of Mumbai Indians and is believed to be one of the contenders for the Emerging players' award.
Arshdeep Singh
Punjab Kings pace bowler Arshdeep Singh has been commendable throughout the season. He finished the IPL 2022 season with ten wickets from 14 matches with the best figures of 3/37 and an economy rate of 7.70. He has been consistent throughout, rewarded by his inclusion in Team India for T20 against South Africa. His bowling in death overs has been mesmerising and, many times, game-changing for Punjab Kings. Fans would miss his final over bowling in the playoffs.
