The 18-year-old leg-spinner recorded five for 48 as Pakistan was dismissed for 216 on Karachi's third day of play, giving England a target of 167 to win the series 3-0.
As they sprinted to 112 for two at stumps, England began their chase in a way that typified the aggressive style of cricket the side has been playing under the leadership of Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum.
Ben Duckett (50) and Stokes (10) were still at the crease on day four, meaning the tourists needed 55 runs to win.
But Ahmed's introduction during the afternoon session helped shift the tide in England's favour.

After Jack Leach (three for 72) earlier reduced the host to 54 for three, Babar Azam and Saud Shakeel appeared to have given Pakistan a lifeline with their 110-run partnership.
As Pakistan fell from 164 for three to 177 for six at tea, Ahmed added two more crucial breakthroughs, Mohammad Rizwan (seven) and Saud Shakeel (53), following his critical dismissal of Pakistan captain Babar for 54.
The hosts were subsequently bowled out for 216 as Ahmed continued where he left off in the evening session by taking two more wickets to complete his five-fer.
After Ahmed's contributions, England's chase got off to a baz-ball on steroids, starting as the necessary total was quickly reduced to 80 when Zak Crawley was out lbw after scoring 41 runs in as many balls.
Ahmed was inserted at number three to advance the scoring, but he only managed to score ten before being dismissed by Abrar Ahmed. Ahmed appeared furious with himself and struck the bat as he left the field.
In attractive innings that included accidentally sending his bat close to the square leg umpire's feet to find a boundary for England, Stokes moved up the order to number four.
He will begin on Tuesday morning alongside Duckett, who made an unbeaten 50 off 38 balls.
