Oversea Players contribution for Brand IPL
The Indian Premier League, being the world’s biggest T20 tournament, has been attracting fans and players all across the globe. IPL is a perfect stage for the Indian talents and for the overseas players to showcase their potential to the world.
Overseas players have made a considerable contribution in taking the league to higher levels with their outstanding performances. However, very few foreign players have been able to show consistency and play consecutive editions of the grand league. Some of them have a significant contribution to the league and have earned huge praises worldwide. Let us take a look at some of these overseas players who participated in the league and ruled the league!
Shane Watson
The Former Australian opener is one of the few players who has ruled the IPL since the first season. Except for 2009, he played every year till 2020. With his all-around abilities, he has earned tremendous recognition in the league. The all-rounder also led Rajasthan Royals in 2014 but had a modest outing by his standards. In 2015, he was picked by RCB; however, he couldn’t justify his potential for the franchise. Later he was bagged by CSK, and Watson stunned everyone with his blitz for the franchise. He silenced all the critics who were opening that his ability to play T20 has faded by smashing 555 runs in the season- his best in IPL history. Watson announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in 2020, and thus the edition turned out to be his last IPL edition.
Kieron Pollard
The West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard is one of the most popular overseas players in the history of IPL. Pollard’s importance can be stated by the fact that since his signing, he has played for only one franchise, which is Mumbai Indians. Pollard is one of the most valuable assets not only for MI but also for the league. His power-hitting ability has no match! The way he changes the result of any game from any point is unbelievable. Pollard has a huge fan base due to his exceptional knocks and presence on the field. He has been one of the biggest threats to any bowler, and his monstrous sixes are no less than any nightmare for them due to his dedication and ability to fight till the last ball.
Chris Gayle
Famed as ‘the Universe Boss’, Chris Gayle, the power hitter from West Indies, needs no introduction as he has been one of the most popular and brutal players of IPL. Gayle started his journey in 2008 and has played for three teams. In the first three years, the left-handed batter was part of KKR, while for the next seven years, Gayle represented RCB. Further, in 2018 he played for Punjab. During these years, there has been no stopping Gayle’s destruction. His 175 against Pune Warriors was a hurricane inning that no one could ever imagine, and the high score is still not touched by any other batsmen. Gayle’s contribution to IPL is invaluable, and his an unforgettable legacy in the tournament.
AB de Villiers
AB de Villiers, arguably the most loved foreign player globally, has always been a prime attraction in IPL. The popularity and love he has gained over the years are unmatchable. De Villiers played his first three seasons for Delhi, and further, since 2011, he has been a crucial part of RCB. De Villiers is the second-highest runs scorer (5056) among overseas players in IPL history. The Proteas had been a sensation with his outstanding batting and fielding skills. He had the unique ability to smash balls all over the ground and was thus referred to as ‘Mr.360’. He has proved that he is a lone warrior in many matches and can make his team victorious single-handedly. De Villiers was a sole gem of the tournament, and the legacy he has left behind is unexcelled! In 2021, the South African legend announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, disheartening millions of fans around the globe.
