Mumbai Indians vs Lucknow Super Giants: Will Mumbai be able to make up for the five losses

The fourth Super weekend of the Indian T20 league is all set for a double dose of entertainment on Saturday. The day will see the first clash of five-time champions Mumbai Indians with Lucknow Super Giants.

Feeble Mumbai Indians looking for their first win

Mumbai Indians have started this season with five consecutive losses, with each loss diminishing their chance of progressing ahead in the competition. Having attempted multiple shuffles and on-field partnership combinations, they are still unable to make the mark. The only good takeaway from the previous loss is the contributions of Dewald Brevis, Tilak Varma, and Suryakumar Yadav from their bats. They almost looked to steal their victory against Punjab Kings but fell short by a margin in the end. They will look to contribute in a similar way as today’s match will be crucial for the team. Already placed at the bottom of the table, a loss again could put curtains on their campaign ahead.

Balanced LSG to fight for a comeback

On the other hand, Lucknow Super Giants will be taking the fields after losing their previous match by three runs to Rajasthan Royals. Marcus Stoinis could have pulled the team to the other side of the result, but the batter failed to chase down the final balls of the match. The KL Rahul-led team, though they accumulated six points, sits at the fifth spot in the points table.

    Pitch report

The afternoon match in Brabourne Stadium, Pune, might not have much to do with the toss wins today. We can expect good power-hitting and boundaries in the clash with small boundaries.

    Probable Playing XI

Lucknow Super Giants: KL Rahul (c), Quinton de Kock (wk), Deepak Hooda, Marcus Stoinis, Ayush Badoni, Jason Holder, Krunal Pandya, K Gowtham, Dushmantha Chameera, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan

Mumbai Indians: Ishan Kishan (wk), Rohit Sharma (c), Dewald Brevis, Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, Kieron Pollard, Fabian Allen, Murugan Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Jaydev Unadkat/Basil Thampi, Tymal Mills

Stats to keep an eye on

    • KL Rahul has the most runs in the IPL (2680) at an average of 53.60 since 2018.
    • Dushmantha Chameera has dismissed Mumbai Indians’ skipper Rohit Sharma six times in T20I. This is the most number of times that the India and Mumbai captain has fallen to an individual bowler.

Despite having two overseas bowlers, Mumbai Indians are relying only on Tymal Mills. Adding Riley Meredith, Fabian Allen, or Tim David could solve their primary problem. They need to find the right balance quickly and put their best foot forward to be in the campaign. It will be an interesting clash to witness as LSG will be one of the favorites to win in the clash today as Mumbai Indians look depleted of the team strength.
