Most wickets in the history of IPL playoffs
In the season of IPL 2022, cricket fans see the game of 10 teams. So far this season, 70 matches have been played in the Indian Premier League.
Trent bolt was one of the best Bowlers in the deciding match; besides him like a gun, all others were taken in remand by the Gujarat batsman.
This leads us to a question regarding who has been the most successful wicket-takers in the history of the IPL playoffs since the pressure at this stage of the platform is very high and is the real test for bowlers. So, without any further ado, let’s have a look at five bowlers with the most wicket in IPL playoffs history:
Dwayne Bravo
DJ Bravo holds the record for most wickets taken in the Indian Premier League playoffs, with 28 in 19 matches at an economy rate of 8.21. His strike rate is a whopping 13.80. He has represented the Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, and Gujarat Lions in the Indian T20 League.
Unfortunately, the yellow army is out of playoffs this season, so the West Indies legend all-rounder can’t add more wickets to his tally. However, it’s for sure that if the Chennai-based franchise had qualified, Bravo would have left no stone unturned for the franchise.
Ravichandran Ashwin
R Ashwin has taken the second most wickets in the IPL playoffs. In 18 matches, he has taken 19 wickets at an economy rate of 7.15. Although Ashwin has played as many games as DJ Bravo, he has a poor strike rate. He has appeared for the Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, and Rajasthan Royals in the playoffs this season.
The Indian spinner is having a good IPL so far but recently went wicketless in a playoff match against Gujarat Titans, which must have been disappointing for him as the all-rounder is essential for the Rajasthan based franchise. We can expect a comeback from Ashwin in Rajasthan’s next match (qualifier 2), as the bowler has been consistent in the playoffs since the start of the Indian Premier League.
Harbhajan Singh
Harbhajan Singh is the other player on the list, and the Indian veteran spinner has 17 wickets to his name at an economy rate of 7.27 in 15 matches. The experienced off-spinner has played from both the most successful franchises of IPL, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, being a part of 2 IPL titles, one from each franchise.
In his peak time, Harbhajan was an incredible player for Mumbai Indians and led them to many victories just from his bowling spell of 3-4 overs as the batsman struggled to play against him. His performance used to groom even more when it came to playoffs as his experience used to help in absorbing pressure and using it on opposition batters.
Lasith Malinga
He is the most prominent legend among those on this list as the Sri Lankan gunner has been in the headlines of IPL since its beginning, and everything about the bowler was unique, be it his bowling action or the way he used to bowl Yorkers at the correct line and length with perfection.
Considering this, it’s no surprise that Malinga is a part of this list with 14 wickets to his name in 15 matches. He has given many memorable performances, with the best of all coming in his last IPL game against Chennai Super Kings, which was final, and CSK needed two runs off one ball. The bowler absorbed all the pressure and bowled a Yorker at a perfect pace dismissing Shardul Thakur and leading Mumbai Indians to their fourth title. Even in years to come, the cricket world and Mumbai Indians can never forget Malinga.
Ravindra Jadeja
Ravindra Jadeja of Chennai Super Kings is also a part of this list as the flamboyant cricketer has 16 wickets in 21 matches for Chennai Super Kings while playing playoffs. Generally, the all-rounder is in talks because of his extraordinary performance from the bat, but he’s second to none, even when it comes to bowling.
Jadeja didn’t have a great IPL 2022 as he only took five wickets in 10 matches this season and wasn’t performing well even with the bat. He would like to forget many things that happened to him, which he would like to forget, he was made captain of Chennai Super Kings, but ultimately, he gave it up as the team was not performing up to the mark and his performance also depleted a lot.
