More trouble awaits CSK; Deepak Chahar’s return to IPL is in jeopardy
Deepak Chahar, one of the most expensive picks of Chennai Super Kings, failed to join the IPL camp owing to his recovery from a quadriceps tear that he got during the final T20I match against West Indies in February.
Due to this injury, he was set to miss a significant part of the tournament.
Another injury for Deepak Chahar
Chennai Super Kings had a very terrible start to the tournament with four consecutive losses. While everyone was just missing Deepak Chahar in the squad and hoping for his early return, the player has suffered a back injury during rehab at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore.
With the injury of the key all-rounder taking over, his return to this IPL remains a question mark as BCCI and Indian team management would want him to get back in shape as the team prepares for the T20 World Cup, which will commence in October.
Deep trouble for CSK
“The bowling of CSK, there’s a big hole there. Deepak Chahar might not play the whole season. Hopefully, he gets there halfway through the season because they need him – that swing, the way he picks up wickets with the swing bowling in the powerplay overs.
“It takes a lot of pressure off the other bowlers, especially the spinners in those middle overs,” Brad Hogg said on his YouTube channel.
Deepak Chahar has played 58 IPL matches for CSK between 2018 and 2021. He claimed 58 wickets at an economy rate of 7.70 for the four-time IPL champions. This is a major setback for the team as they have struggled with a wicket-taker in the powerplay. In the last four matches, they have taken just two wickets at an economy of 8.62 in 24 overs. It will be a tough challenge for the franchise to find his replacement.
