Cricket News: India’s dilemma and preparation to win the T20 world cup 2022
As the World Cup kicks off, the initial champions of the competition have numerous selection conundrums
More than a billion people in India are anticipating their great squad to take home a significant trophy for the first time since winning the ICC Champions Trophy 2013 in England. The real challenge for the sub-continental giants may be choosing the ideal combination from a wealth of excellent players, especially with the T20I series against Ireland and England coming up before the big dance. So, who might be selected and reserve a ticket to Australia later this year?
The backbone of the Indian team- Top 3
According to the first assessments, the positions of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli in the line-up appear to be locked up. Even though these three may ultimately be selected, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s recent performance is cause for concern. In 28 innings together, the pair have scored just two fifties, and Kohli’s IPL batting average of 23.76 and Rohit’s 19.14 have raised some significant questions in a World Cup year.
If they stick with this line-up, India will have three right-handers at the top.
Interestingly, with Pakistan (2010) being the lone exception, six of the previous seven winners of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup used a left-hand-right-hand starting combo in the championship match.
Who else can open alongside Rohit Sharma?
Shikhar Dhawan and a few wildcard choices are now present. Dhawan has a history of excelling at ICC competitions, with averages of 53.70 in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup and 77.88 in the ICC Champions Trophy, in addition to his reliable IPL statistics. With two ODI centuries and a T20I average of 33.87, he earned Player of the Tournament honours at the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy. He also has fond memories of playing on Australian soil.
The other possible candidate for opening can be Ishan Kishan, who has shown what he’s capable of in the recent South Africa series as he ensured that India got the start, they needed in almost all the matches.
