Karn Sharma: Player to win three consecutive IPL titles

Many players have put all their dedication and perseverance into the tournament. However, not all have succeeded in winning the title. However, some players have made winning the trophy of the toughest league a habit. His flair for winning the IPL is so strong that he has managed to win the trophy, not once or twice but three times in a row! No, it’s not any big-name worldwide that many might be wondering about. But it is the Indian spinner Karn Sharma has become the first player in the IPL history to win the championship three times consecutively! The leg spinner conquered the trophy in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

Karn Sharma has proved to be a lucky mascot that every team would like. It doesn’t matter how many matches he featured or how many wickets he took, as the thing that everyone remembers is that the spinner has won three consecutive titles, that’s it! 

In 2016, he played for Sunrisers Hyderabad, who won that year. He went wicket-less in five matches and ended with a rather embarrassing economy rate of 10.46. He was the last man on the wicket-takers list, but who cares if you end up being the winner of the tournament! Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Royal Challengers Banglore in the final of 2016 to become the champions for the first time. However, the franchise released him for the next season of the tournament,

In 2017, Karn Sharma was selected by Mumbai Indians. 2017 turned out to be the best year for the leg spinner in terms of his performance and his side winning the cup. He picked up 13 wickets from 9 matches and contributed generously to the Mumbai Indians’ triumphant run in IPL 2017. Mumbai Indians won their third trophy by defeating CSK in the finals. This was Karn’s second consecutive championship. Although Karn played well for the season, MI released him for the next season.

In 2018, Chennai Super Kings bagged Karn Sharma in their squad, and no one ever imagined that this decision would change Karn’s fate into a miracle. As every year, he didn’t play many matches for the team. In his campaign with CSK, he was featured in just six games in which he clinched four wickets. However, the spinner did play the IPL final match and took the crucial wicket of Kane Williamson, helping the team to conquer the tournament. As CSK won their third title of the tournament, Karn Sharma won his third title in a row, which he had never imagined. 

He is a handy batsman down the order and can also hit the ball over the ropes. He had a phenomenal start to his IPL career and earned a place in the Indian bowling set-up for the Australian tour in 2014. The leg spinner is currently playing for RCB, and the franchise is looking forward to their maiden trophy as the team is in good flow. Karn Sharma has, however, achieved the feat that no one ever imagined. While for some players, winning the trophy has been a dream, there is Karn Sharma, who conquered the title three times in a row.
