Mohsin Khan: The most economical bowler of the week
Mohsin Khan, the 23-year-old Lucknow Super Giants' pacer, has been in impressive form as a debutant in the fifteen editions of IPL. The left-arm pacer bought at a base price of INR 20 Lakhs has been among the rookie pacers who bring a different wave in IPL
The bowler has till now played six matches and scalped nine wickets. The bowler is unique because he has been carrying an economy of 5.17, which is highly commendable for a pacer, especially in shorter formats like IPL. In the two encounters that Lucknow Super Giants had this week with Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Titans, he bowled with an economy of 2 and 4.50, respectively, in his spell. He conceded just 24 runs in his seven overs and took two wickets in the two matches. The pacer clocks usually about 140 kmph consistently but had his highest delivery clocking at 145 kmph this season. Apart from his sheer pace, the bowler special is his variations, different release angles from the left arm involving his shrewd cricketing acumen.
Skipper KL Rahul confessed how hard it is to face the pacer even in the nets and is scared to play him in training sessions. He said, "He's been brilliant. I played him in the nets for the first time a month ago... Didn't want to face him. He was sharp and scary at times."
Eminent commentator Harsha Bhogle praised the bowler, "Mohsin Khan said his parents wanted to see him play in the #IPL. Well, they are going to be seeing a lot of him in the future."
Given proper training, he's a star in the making and will indeed bring many laurels to the nation if included on the Indian side. It is always pleasing to see youngsters perform and emerge as the finds of such tournaments.
